Spring Break Camp 2015 Registration

Adventures in the Natural World this Spring!

Make the most of your child's break from school by spending a day, two days, or even the entire week exploring science and the natural world! The Museum offers a selection of daily camps on a variety of natural history topics and science themes with plenty of hands-on activities.

  • Spring Break Camps are offered for children currently in kindergarten through 5th grade
  • Camp runs daily from Monday, March 30 through Friday, April 3, 2015
  • Camp hours are 9:00am to 4:00pm
  • Campers should bring a lunch and a drink from home and will spend time with Museum staff, eating and then exploring outdoors
  • Each day has a different science and nature theme! Register for one, several, or all Spring Break Camps
  • The Spring Break Camp fee is $70 per day per child per session

Kindergarten and First Grade Camp Sessions

Rock and Roar 

It’s all about geology and dinosaurs today! The morning will be spent identifying rocks and minerals, collecting them and sorting them while touring the Land Gallery. The afternoon will find us exploring the world of dinosaurs. We’ll discover what they ate, how big they were, and where they lived. Plus, get a behind-the-scenes tour of our collections!

Bugs, Slugs, and Other Ughs 

Discover the amazing world of insects, snails, roaches, earthworms, and more! Study their amazing variety by getting up close and personal with live bugs, explore their life cycles, and create insect art. We’ll also take a hike in the foothills around the Museum, searching for the arthropods that live in our area.

Pop, Fizz, BANG! 

Join us for a day filled with fizzing and oozing hands-on experiments exploring chemistry and physics. We’ll investigate pH and color, produce static electricity, and learn how sound travels.  We’ll even make rockets and launch them outdoors!

Design Lab

Using a wide range of materials in a variety of shapes and sizes, campers will strengthen problem-solving skills as they resolve building challenges. How can we make a structure balance? How tall can we build this tower? The possibilities are endless!

Artful Science

Art and science go hand in hand in this day of exploration. We’ll dig into soil science as we create works of art, investigate plants while making flower paintings, go on a color scavenger hunt, and much more.

Second and Third Grade Camp Sessions

Science + Art

Join us as we combine art, technology and science. We’ll investigate colors with chromatography, paint with bubbles and marbles, have fun with sound and light, create art bots, and go on a color scavenger hunt as we explore art and science combinations.

Paleo Rocks!

Delve into the science of paleontology from the field to the lab. Discover how fossils are formed, where we find them, and meet some of the people who prepare and study fossils at the Museum.

Nature Explorers

Jump into the web of life! Spend the morning investigating animals and their habitats as we explore food webs, predator   prey interactions, and locomotion. In the afternoon explore plants, create leaf prints, and head outside for a foothills ecological expedition.

Don’t Try This at Home

Join us as we investigate the properties of viscous goo, including slime and quicksand. Explore gases, solids, heat and sound through experiments and projects. Your parents will be so glad you didn’t try these experiments at home!

Gadgets & Gizmos

Campers will dive into the design process as we brainstorm ideas and create testable prototypes. From snap circuits and littleBits to exploring simple and complex machines—it’ll be a day of hands-on designing fun!

Fourth and Fifth Grade Camp Sessions


Engineering and Design

Join us as we spend time tinkering with ideas, building prototypes, and deconstructing gadgets and toys. We’ll use the leftover thingamabobs and littleBits to construct new contraptions and inventions.

Science Mash-Up

Join us as we explore a wide variety of science subjects from chemistry and physics to biology, and geology. We’ll go on a site-based field trip and participate in cool experiments and projects.

Geology 101

How well do you know your rocks? Identify and classify rocks, minerals and crystals while examining samples throughout the Museum. Plus, find out how volcanoes form and what causes earthquakes.

Field Detectives 

Campers will spend the day learning about the ways plants, animals, insects, and soils are interconnected. They will explore habitats, life cycles, and food webs while doing activities both inside the Museum and outside along the Shoreline Trail.

Electrical Connections

Students will learn about electrical circuits and currents, electrical conductors and insulators, conduct tests to understand the relationship between electricity and magnetism, and create a bristle bot to take home!
